BUCKINGHAM Palace has confirmed that the Queen will not visit Australia this year despite a face-to-face invitation to attend the 150th Melbourne Cup celebrations from Premier John Brumby at Balmoral Castle last October. The Queen's press secretary told The Age the "very kind, very nice" offer had been discussed informally but "unfortunately, the schedule for her overseas visits was already full". The Queen completes two major international trips each year, one in spring and one in autumn. Her first official tour this year, over 10 days, is to Canada and New York. Planning for her second trip later in the year is being finalised, but the destination cannot yet be confirmed "for security reasons".
