LISSA CHRISTOPHER

HARBOUR, TREES AND HILLSJacqueline Belassa's Sydney is always sunny. She celebrates and idealises its harbours and beaches in vivid greens and blues (The Farewell €” Balmoral, pictured), smothers her boards and papers with colour and pattern and employs a style that's slightly stylised, slightly naive and easy to enjoy. Look closely €” in some paintings, small, easy-to-overlook figures are experiencing small personal dramas.Robin Gibson Gallery, 278 Liverpool Street, Darlinghurst, 9331 6692. Tue-Sat, 11am-6pm. Until March 3.FOGLIE DI LUCESydney photographer Enrico Scotece is preoccupied with the effects of sunlight on leaves and has taken a series of exquisite black-and-white photos that look European but were taken in local suburbs. Unfortunately, they'd look terrible in newsprint. Seen in real life, however, the whorls of shadowy leaf litter, clusters of young leaves filtering sunlight and barren vines that have captured his eye should easily bewitch yours.Point Light Gallery, Surry Hills, 4/50 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, 9281 6615. Thu-Sun, 11am-5pm. Until March 7.PAUL BACON SCULPTUREBacon's oiled-steel sculptures are all enticingly proportioned. Some are wonderfully spindly skeletal constructions, while others, viewed from particular angles, are oddly reminscent of cubist paintings. Each one can be enjoyed simply for its shape and coppery discolourations or scanned for artful resonances with its title, such as Bodkin, Carney; Langarwil (a 19th-century rabbit exterminator); or the appealingly familiar Hexham Bridge No. 2. Avalon Sea Pool 2, pictured.Watters Gallery, 109 Riley Street, East Sydney, 9331 2556, Tue andSat, 10am-5pm; Wed-Fri, 10am-7pm.
